A comprehensive ecommerce and community platform serving over 200,000 active guitar students worldwide. Successfully migrated from a WordPress based system to a fully custom PHP MVC framework in 2012. In 2024, the platform underwent a complete rebuild and modernisation, reaching the 200K+ user milestone while enhancing performance, scalability, and user experience. The platform handles complex subscription management, video streaming infrastructure, product licensing, and artist management systems. Features robust payment processing through Stripe and PayPal, supporting multiple currencies and subscription tiers.
The Challenge
Migrating users from WordPress to a custom platform in 2012 while maintaining zero downtime and preserving all user data, subscriptions, and purchase history. Then in 2024, executing a complete rebuild and modernisation of the entire platform while maintaining continuous service to the growing user base, reaching 200K+ active users.
The Solution
Built a phased migration system with parallel databases, automated data validation, and rollback capabilities for the 2012 WordPress migration. The 2024 modernisation involved a complete architectural overhaul with improved codebase organisation, enhanced performance optimisations, modernised frontend patterns, and streamlined backend processes. Implemented comprehensive testing and staged rollouts to ensure seamless transitions for both major milestones.
